<p>Thiruvananthapuram: With social stigma over a 25-year-old major hooch tragedy still haunting a village at Kollam district in Kerala, a group of kids have come up with an anti-narcotic screen play.</p><p>It is not just aimed at shedding the social stigma the region still faces owing to the hooch tragedy that happened in 2000, but also to curb the increasing liquor and drug abuse in the locality.</p>.Toll in Kerala hooch tragedy rises to 25.<p>Kalluvathukal on the suburbs of Kollam witnessed a hooch tragedy that claimed over 30 lives and caused deformities like vision impairment to many in 2000. It still remains as one of the major liquor tragedies that Kerala ever witnessed.</p><p>Even after 25 years the region is still identified by people with the hooch tragedy. Moreover, illicit liquor and narcotic substances sale is alarmingly increasing in the state. Hence the students and teachers of the Kalluvathukal government lower primary school came up with the idea of stage play to create awareness against liquor and drugs. </p><p>Reeja R S, a teacher at the school, said that many people from the region were still being identified as one from the place where the liquor tragedy occurred. "Moreover, as teachers, we also used to come across distress in the families of many students owing to liquor or drug addiction of elders. Hence we came out with the idea of a stage play by kids," she told DH.</p><p>The students already staged the play at their school and another nearby government school. They will be playing the drama at a public place in Kalluvathukal on August 15. </p><p>Dakshina P, a class four student, also made a request to state education minister V Sivankutty through the social media seeking more opportunities to play the drama.</p>
