Kerala couple exchange copies of Constitution at wedding to promote civic awareness

Thiruvananthapuram: A couple in Kerala who limited their marriage ceremony to exchange of Constitution are being widely hailed for their novel initiative.

It was as part of their Constitution literary efforts that the couple chose their marriage too to become a Constitution awareness event.

Sheethal P S, who hails from Kollam, and Jithin Krishna, who hails from Palakkad, got married by signing the register at the Nenmara sub-registrar office the other day under the Special Marriage Act. The simple function was attended only by a few close relatives and friends. The couple signed a marriage agreement, exchanged copies of the Constitution and also distributed pamphlets on awareness about the Constitution to the participants.

Sheethal, who is a teacher by profession, has been involved in Constitution awareness activities over the last many years, while Jithin is a state revenue department official. Sheethal is also an active member of the Constitution literacy council which is involved in Constitution awareness activities.

A thought that awareness about the Constitution is becoming more important these days prompted the couple to carry out their marriage ceremony in a novel way. They also expressed hope that many more will choose their path in conducting their marriage.

Appreciating the couple, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said in a social media post that "wishing them all happiness as they uphold each other’s fundamental rights and follow the Directive Principles in bringing up their kids."

The couple is being widely appreciated in social media for their novel initiative in spreading awareness about the Constitution.
