<p class="title">Many people wonder as to why RJD chief Lalu Prasad has been admitted to a Ranchi hospital for so long when the court had ordered him to be sent to Hotwar Jail in Ranchi. His rivals even mock at him by calling him Prisoner No 3351 (the number allotted to him as a prisoner convicted in fodder scam).</p>.<p class="bodytext">But the doctors attending him say that the 71-year-old former Chief Minister of Bihar should continue to undergo treatment at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi. “Lalu Prasad’s health is a matter of serious concern. As of now, his condition is stable, but he is just not fit to be shifted to Hotwar jail (on the outskirts of Ranchi) where he was imprisoned with other convicts,” a senior doctor posted at the prestigious hospital told Deccan Herald on Saturday. The doctor requested that he should not be identified as he was not supposed to speak to media.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Lalu, who has been convicted and jailed in different fodder scam cases, was earlier reported to be suffering from hypertension, chronic kidney disease and hypertrophy of prostate. “Earlier, he was operated upon for aortic valve replacement, closure of patent foramen ovale (hole in the heart) and Aortoplasty. The latest surgery was related to fistulectomy. Besides, his blood sugar levels do not remain under control and keeps fluctuating,” said Dr D K Jha, under whose supervision Lalu is recuperating in RIMS. “However, his condition is stable, as of now,” the doctor hastened to add.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Last month, when he had an infectious boil in his leg, Lalu’s creatinine level had increased from 1.5 to 1.85. “And, therefore, his white blood cell count surged to 12,000 while normally it should be in the range of 4000 to 5000,” explained another doctor, dwelling at length why Lalu needs constant supervision by doctors. </p>
