<p>Raigad: A comprehensive and sustainable mobility plan (CMP) is being formulated between the satellite township of Navi Mumbai and the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA) as the region is set to witness massive development after the commissioning of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). </p><p>The Maharashtra government has entrusted the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Ltd (CIDCO) to come out with the CMP.</p><p>The NMIA will be inaugurated in the coming months of 2025. </p><p>While the satellite township of Navi Mumbai is spread over Thane and Raigad districts, the NMIA is coming up in Raigad with NAINA often being referred to as the Third Mumbai. </p><p>The plan aims to establish an environmentally sustainable and inclusive transportation policy for the region until 2054. It will focus on ensuring safe, efficient, and sustainable transport, integrating all modes of mobility, and promoting public transportation. </p><p>The CMP will adopt a holistic approach by incorporating public transport, private vehicles, and non-motorized modes such as walking and cycling, while addressing future challenges arising from rapid urbanization, congestion, and environmental concerns.</p>.Maharashtra CM Fadnavis reveals 94% work of Navi Mumbai airport complete .<p>“With the projects such as Navi Mumbai International Airport, Corporate Park, Aerocity, Edu City, Logistic Park, Medicity along with residential and industrial growth, traffic volume in Navi Mumbai is set to rise substantially. In this backdrop, the Comprehensive Mobility Plan will serve as a guiding framework for CIDCO and other authorities to develop a versatile, inclusive, and future-ready transportation system,” said Vijay Singhal, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, CIDCO.</p><p>Currently, Navi Mumbai’s transport infrastructure comprises major roads such as Thane-Belapur Road, Palm Beach Road, Sion-Panvel Highway, and Atal Setu, including a 980 km of regional and internal road network, over 60 km of railway lines, the Belapur–Pendhar Metro corridor, and bus services operated by NMMC, BEST, MSRTC, and others, providing critical local and regional connectivity. With projects including Navi Mumbai International Airport, Atal Setu, Metro Line 8 linking NMIA to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai, Panvel-Karjat suburban railway line, and the extension of Metro Line 1 from Belapur to NMIA, the need for an integrated transport policy has become imperative.</p><p>In this context, CMP will play a crucial role in identifying gaps in the current transportation network, prioritizing investments, and creating a phased roadmap aligned with local and regional mobility needs. </p><p>CMP is also a mandatory prerequisite for obtaining funding from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for metro and other public transport projects.</p><p>Through CMP, CIDCO aims to integrate Navi Mumbai and NAINA with new upcoming developments such as the Manufacturing Hub proposed by Jawaharlal Nehru Port, NMIIA, Corporate Park in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, Aerocity.</p><p>To provide a long‐term traffic and transportation strategy for efficient mobility of the Navi Mumbai and NAINA Area in a manner which is environmentally sustainable and socially equitable.</p><p>Promotion of non-motorized and public transport modes in Navi Mumbai and NAINA is in line with National Urban Transport Policy, CIDCO officials said.</p>
