PM Modi must inform Parliament about steps taken to protect Hindus in Bangladesh, says Uddhav Thackeray

Mumbai: Flagging the issue of atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh, Shiv Sena (UBT) head and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inform the Parliament about the steps being taken to protect the Hindus in the strife-torn neighbouring country.

“If the Prime Minister can stop the Russia-Ukraine war, he should also intervene and stop atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh….while (former Bangladesh Prime Minister) Sheikh Hasina is in India, as I have read in newspapers…but what about the Hindus who are suffering there,” Thackeray told reporters on Friday. 

“Why is the government silent on the atrocities on the plight of Hindus in Bangladesh? The Opposition has been raising the issue in Parliament for the past few days on the injustice being meted out to the minority Hindus there, but nothing is being done by India,” said Thackeray.

He said that a couple of months ago, when the Bangladesh cricket team had come to India, Aditya Thackeray had demanded that we shouldn’t play with them, but the government kept mum and did nothing about it.

“Modi should inform Parliament about steps India is taking to protect Hindus in Bangladesh,” Thackeray said, adding that Hindus are being targeted daily, the ISKCON Temple was burnt, their leaders were arrested and subjected to atrocities. 

“There  is no point in making slogans like batenge to katenge, fatenge, marenge…a delegation of Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs had sought an appointment on Thursday to meet Modi, however, they were not given time,” he said. 

Thackeray said that the government did not care for the injustices done to our own people in Manipur state, so it has not really understood the sufferings of the Hindus in Bangladesh, but now the Centre must spell out its role.
