Woman denied admission by Pune hospital: CM Fadnavis sets up inquiry panel under Joint Charity Commissioner

The issue was highlighted by BJP MLC Amit Gorkhe a day earlier. In a video message, he said Tanisha Bhise, the wife of his personal secretary, was refused admission by Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, after which she was taken to another hospital where she died after delivering twins.

Mumbai: A pregnant woman died under distressing circumstances after being denied admission at the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital and Research Center in Pune. The incident has sparked off a political debate in Maharashtra.

The hospital management had allegedly asked for Rs 10 lakh deposit before admission.

The woman, Tanisha Bhise, died in the Manipal Hospital in Baner in Pune, a couple of days after she delivered twins at the Surya Hospital in Baner. Tanisha was wife of Sushant Bhise, who is secretary of BJP MLC Amit Gorkhe.

After the issue gained media attention, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered a probe headed by Pune-based Joint Commisioner of Charity. Maha Vikas Aghadi constituents including Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP) attacked the state government over the incident and staged a protest.

The hospital management, after its internal probe, said that the woman's pregnancy was high risk.

The Maharashtra State Commission for Women (MSCW) has also taken cognizance of the incident even as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a show-cause notice to the hospital.

The Dinanath Hospital said that the charges of denial of admission over non-payment if Rs 10 lakh are misleading and have been made out of frustration by the victim's family.
