<p>Guwahati: The death toll due to the <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/india/meghalaya/18-killed-one-injured-in-dynamite-explosion-in-illegal-coal-mine-in-meghalaya-case-registered-3887756">mishap in an illegal coal mine</a> in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills district reached 25 with seven more bodies counted on Friday. </p><p>Police said four more bodies were recovered on Friday while two bodies, which were taken by their families on Thursday, were brought to hospital while an injured succumbed to his injuries. </p><p>At least 18 bodies were recovered on Thursday morning from Mynsynhgat, a remote village, where an explosion took place inside an illegal coal mine. </p>.Meghalaya mine blast: CM Conrad Sangma warns of strict action.<p>Police, on the other hand, took two persons into custody on Friday for allegedly running the illegal coal mine and for carrying out the dynamite explosion causing the tragedy. Official sources said it is feared that a few more workers might be trapped inside the mine. </p><p>At least five injured were rushed to a hospital in Silchar Medical College in neighbouring Assam. </p><p>Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma on Thursday said fire engulfed the mine after a dynamite explosion was carried out inside the illegal coal mine. The court also asked the DC and SP to submit a report about the actions taken into the case.</p><p>Meghalaya had witnessed several such coal mine mishpas in the past, including death of 15 miners in 2012 and another 13 in 2018. The illegal coal mine was banned by the NGT in 2014 but the ban was revoked by the Supreme Court in 2019. But the state government started giving permission for scientific coal mining last year as per an action plan. </p>
