<p>In a shot in the arm for the Narendra Modi government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, Monster.com’s employment index, a monthly gauge of the country’s online job demand, has said that online hiring activity registered 6 per cent year-on-year growth in January. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The outlook for the year looks bullish too. The country’s online job demand stood at 151 during January compared with 142 of the corresponding period last year.<br /><br />“The Monster Employment Index continues to show a positive growth momentum with a six per cent growth in January 2015. The production and manufacturing sector grew by 38 per cent year-on-year followed by travel and tourism and IT sectors," Monster.com (India/Middle-East/South East Asia/Hong Kong) Managing Director Sanjay Modi said.<br /><br />“The indicators suggest that we are moving in the right direction in strengthening our ‘Make in India’ initiative,” he said.<br /><br />The index, which had gone up to 160 in December, ended the year for Indian job market on a cheerful note as online hiring activity had registered 19 per cent year-on-year growth in December last year.<br /><br />“With the Budget 2015 round the corner, we expect some robust steps from the government that would boost the employment scenario in the country,” Modi added.<br /><br />City-wise, online opportunities exceeded the year-ago level in nine of the 13 cities monitored by the Index. Baroda (up 29 per cent) led all monitored cities by the way of long-term gain for the second month in a row.<br /><br />Among metro markets, Delhi-NCR (up 12 per cent) exhibited the highest growth, the report said.</p>
