Operation Sindoor reflected ‘non-escalatory approach’, avoided targeting Pak military, civilians: India tells US, UK, Russia

New Delhi: India has reached out to Russia, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, the United Kingdom, and several other nations over the past few hours since its fighter jets hit terrorist infrastructure at nine locations in areas illegally occupied by Pakistan, across the Line of Control (LoC), as well as deep inside Pakistan.

New Delhi underlined that India’s response to the April 22 carnage by the terrorists linked to organisations based in Pakistan was “calibrated” and reflected its “non-escalatory approach”. It added that the operation underscored “India’s resolve to hold perpetrators accountable while avoiding unnecessary provocation”.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval called his US counterpart, Marco Rubio, and briefed him about the ‘Operation Sindoor’ carried out by the Indian Air Force in response to the April 22 killing of 26 people at Baisaran near Pahalgam in J&K by the terrorists owing allegiance to the Lashkar-e-Tayyiba based in Pakistan.

“I am monitoring the situation between India and Pakistan closely. I echo @POTUS's comments earlier today that this hopefully ends quickly and will continue to engage both Indian and Pakistani leadership towards a peaceful resolution,” Rubio, who now holds the dual portfolio of Secretary of State and NSA, posted on X.

Doval conveyed to Rubio that India’s actions against terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and the J&K areas under the control of Pakistan had been focused and precise. “They (the actions) were measured, responsible and designed to be non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani civilian, economic or military targets have been hit. Only known terror camps were targeted,” the Embassy of India in Washington, D.C. stated.

US Vice President J D Vance recently stated that President Donald Trump’s administration would expect that India would respond to the terrorist attack in a way that would not lead to a regional conflict. He had also urged Pakistan to cooperate with India to bring the terrorists to justice.

Vance and his family were in Jaipur when the terrorists carried out the carnage in J&K. He had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi the previous day.

New Delhi’s diplomatic mission in Washington, D.C., stated that India had “credible leads, technical inputs, testimony of the survivors and other evidence” pointing towards the “clear involvement” of terrorists based in Pakistan in the April 22 carnage in J&K. “It was expected that Pakistan would take action against terrorists and the infrastructure that supports them. Instead, during the fortnight that has gone by, Pakistan has indulged in denial and made allegations of false flag operations against India,” it added in a press release.

A source in New Delhi said that senior officials of the Government of India had spoken to their counterparts in a number of countries, including Russia, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United States and the United Kingdom, to brief them about the Operation Sindoor carried out by the Indian Air Force.
