RIP Manmohan Singh | A look at the former PM's net worth

Manmohan Singh, the former Prime Minister of India breathed his last on Thursday. Singh was admitted to AIIMS, Delhi on Thursday after a sudden loss of consciousness, following which he passed away. He was 92 years old.

He is survived by his wife Gursharan Kaur and their three daughters.

Manmohan Singh served as the Finance Minister under the leadership of P V Narasimha Rao in 1991. During this tenure he introduced the landmark economic reforms which led to to the adoption of Liberalisation, Privatisation and Globalisation (LPG) system and changed India's economy.

The government has declared a seven day national mourning in honour of the former PM. All official programmes scheduled for Friday have been cancelled and his last rights will be conducted with full state honours.

Manmohan Singh's net worth

Manmohan Singh's total assets are valued at Rs 15.77 crore. According to an affidavit submitted for his nomination in Rajya Sabha, he also had two residential properties in Delhi and Chandigarh which were valued at Rs 7.27 crore 11 years ago.

Other assets declared by him included cash amounting to Rs 30,000, and jewellery valued at Rs 3.86 lakh. Additionally, he had Rs 12.76 lakh in the Postal Saving Scheme.

Manmohan Singh had no outstanding debts.

Singh completed his matriculation examinations from the Punjab University in 1948. His academic career took him from Punjab to the University of Cambridge, UK, where he earned a First Class Honours degree in Economics in 1957.

Singh followed this with a D Phil in Economics from Nuffield College at Oxford University in 1962.

He was born in the village of Gah in undivided Punjab, which is now in Pakistan.

A man of few words, but immense wisdom, he often spoke of communal harmony and democratic values that are at the core of India as a nation.
