The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the Centre to respond to a plea by Italy to allow marine Massimiliano Latorre to remain in his country till an international tribunal decided over the jurisdiction to try the case of killing of two Indian fishermen off Kerala coast in 2012.

A three-judge bench presided over by Anil R Dave asked Additional Solicitor General P S Narasimha to file a formal response to the application even as he submitted that the Centre had no objection to it.

There is no objection and the same conditions could be imposed as was done in the case of another marine, Salvatore Girone, who too is in Italy.

However, the bench, which also comprised Justices Kurian Joseph and Amitava Roy, said it would like to have a proper response of the Centre and posted the matter for further hearing on September 28.
