The team will assess soil conditions in Raichur, Bellary, Bijapur, Bagalkote and Chitradurga districts and submit a report to Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar within seven days, said an official from the Indian Council of Agriculture Research.

The team comprises researchers from the Central Soil and Conservation Research Centre, Bellary; Bangalore bureau of the National Bureau of Soil Survey Land Use Planning and the Indian Council of Agriculture Research, Research Complex for Eastern Region in Patna.

The devastating floods a month back not only created a major soil erosion problem, but also led to deposition of silt and debris on farmers’ field making large areas unfit for cultivation.

The team will visit Tungabhadra and Hagri basin to make an assessment of the affected areas, nature and extent of damage and suggest ameliorative measures.
