A day after threatening to take legal course, Union Minister Smriti Irani issued legal notices to Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh, Pawan Khera, Netta D’Souza as well as Congress as they launched “a series of scathing and belligerent personal attacks” against her.

Irani and Congress leaders are embroiled in a row after the latter had alleged that Irani’s daughter, Zoish, illegally acquired a bar license for her restaurant Silly Souls in Goa and renewed it in the name of a deceased person.

On Saturday, Irani had dismissed Congress's allegations as baseless, adding that the leaders were indulging in character assassination of her 18-year-old daughter just because she fought against former Congress president Rahul Gandhi from Amethi in 2014 and 2019. In 2019, Irani wrestled his seat, considered a Gandhi pocket borough.

In the legal notice, Irani mentioned Khera and Ramesh’s press conference at the Congress headquarters, posts by the Congress party on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and demanded that the Congress leaders tender an unconditional apology and delete all existing references to the issue.

Irani also said that her daughter does not run a bar in Goa and that she never applied for any license for running such a pub.
