<p>Chennai: DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/m-k-stalin">M K Stalin</a> on Thursday termed the the '<a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/one-nation-one-election">One Nation, One Election</a>' bill as “draconian”, which was <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/india/one-nation-one-election-bill-approved-by-union-cabinet-3314731">approved by the Union Cabinet</a>. He said the move will not just erase regional voices at the national level but also erode federalism. </p><p>“The Union Cabinet has approved introducing the draconian ‘One Nation, One Election Bill’ in Parliament. This impractical and anti-democratic move will erase regional voices, erode federalism, and disrupt governance. Rise up #INDIA!,” he wrote on X. </p><p>“Let us resist this attack on Indian Democracy with all our strength!,” Stalin added. </p>.<p>Stalin and DMK have been opposed to the One Nation One Election policy ever since the idea was mooted by the BJP government at the Centre. DMK believes the proposal is an “impractical proposition” as it ignores the complexities of India’s diverse electoral system, and undermines federalism.</p><p>“It is logistically unfeasible, given the vast differences in election cycles, regional issues, and governance priorities. It will require an unrealistic alignment of all terms of office, disrupting the natural course of governance,” Stalin had said in September this year.</p>
