Bio Asia concludes on high note, attracting investments of over Rs 5,000 crore in Telangana

With the new commitments, the total investment in Green Pharma City now stands at Rs 11,100 crore, with employment opportunities exceeding 22,300.

Hyderabad: Bio Asia 2025, the largest life sciences and healthcare conference in Asia, concluded on a high note on Wednesday in Hyderabad, resulting in an investment of over Rs 5,000 crore.

During the event, pharmaceutical companies -- Granules, Orbicular, Aizant, Biological E, Virchow, Virupaksha, Jubilant, Vimta, Aragen, Bharat Biotech and Sai Life Sciences signed MoUs with Telangana government bringing an investment of Rs 5,445 crore, and creating 9,800 new jobs in the flagship initiative of the Government of Telangana- Green Pharma City.

With these commitments, the total investment in Green Pharma City now stands at Rs 11,100 crore, with employment opportunities exceeding 22,300.

Also, the Telangana government had signed Letter of Intent (LoI) with the University of Queensland to collaborate on cutting-edge research, digital healthcare, and AI-driven Innovations.

Innovative Pharmaceutical Services Organization (IPSO) to shape the future of the CRDMO Industry was announced at the two-day conference. Eleven leading contract research and development organisations have come together with a shared vision to advance industry needs, collaborate with the government for a favourable regulatory environment, nurture world-class talent and strengthen the supply chain ecosystem. This is expected to drive innovation, facilitate knowledge sharing, and accelerate global growth.

On the concluding day on Wednesday, IT and industries minister, D Sridhar Babu said that the Telangana government will soon take a decision on the Life Sciences Policy in the state cabinet. In a first-of-its-kind initiative in India, Telangana is set to establish a Life Sciences University. The final decision on its location will be announced soon, he added.

“Telangana is emerging as a preferred destination for pharma investments. To promote sustainable industrial growth, new pharma hubs will be developed in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, ensuring minimal environmental impact. The government has already identified land in Vikarabad and Zaheerabad. Beyond pharma, the government is committed to fostering eco-friendly industries in Lachcharmal, aligning with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s vision for sustainable development. It is a matter of pride that global giants like Amgen, along with other leading companies, are investing Rs 5,445 crore in Telangana, further solidifying the state’s position as a global life sciences hub,” said Sridhara Babu.
