Three Supreme Court judges take oath of office

New Delhi: Three judges Justices N V Anjaria, Vijay Bishnoi, and A S Chandurkar were on Friday sworn in as judges of the Supreme Court.

Chief Justice of India B R Gavai administered the oath of office to three judges in SC premises.

Of the three, Justices Chandurkar took the oath in Hindi.

The Union government had on May 29 notified their appointments.

After the swearing it, the bench strength has been raised to 34, the sanctioned strength of the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court Collegium had on May 26 recommended for the elevation of the three judges.

Justice Anjaria, who originally belonged to the Gujarat High Court was the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court and Justice Bishnoi from the Rajasthan High Court was the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court.

Justice Chandurkar was a judge of the Bombay High Court.

Notably, three vacancies in the top court arose after retirement of then CJI Sanjiv Khanna, and Justices Bela M Trivedi and A S Oka earlier this month.
