<p>Guwahati: Taking a cue from EC's special intensive review of electoral rolls in Bihar, Tripura Tribal Autonomous District Council (TTADC) is planning a committee to carry out a village-level survey to detect "illegal migrants" from neighbouring Bangladesh. </p><p>Tipra Motha, an ally of the ruling BJP, is in power of TTADC that covers 68 per cent of Tripura's geographical area, mostly inhabited by the indigenous tribes. However, less than 40 per cent of the state's population lives in TTADC areas. </p>.Xenophobic persecution of Bengali migrant workers.<p>Announcing this, Pradyot Deb Barma, the founder of Tipra Motha, said the drive is aimed at preventing the illegal migrants from settling in areas under the council. The committee members will visit villages and carry out an inspection to identify the illegal migrants, he said. </p><p>"People of Bihar got united and supported the special intensive review of the electoral rolls which detected a large number of migrants from Bangladesh, Nepal and Myanmar. Assam is carrying out an eviction against the illegal migrants occupying government and forests land. Why are we silent in Tripura?" Deb Barma said. </p><p>Tipra Motha at present has 13 MLAs in the 60-member Tripura Assembly and the party recently moved the EC with a request to carry out a Bihar-like exercise in the state saying the illegal migration was posing a threat to the indigenous communities.</p><p>"Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland and Mizoram have taken steps to ensure that the illegal migrants evicted from Assam can't enter and settle. We must also come out of vote bank politics and prevent settlement of illegal migrants. Otherwise, the children of illegal migrants will sit together with our children in schools. One day they will become MLAs and be the rulers," he said. </p><p>Tripura shares 856-km border with Bangladesh and some portion has still remained unfenced allowing illegal migration and cross border crime. </p><p>Tipra Motha even questioned the BJP government for "not taking steps" to prevent illegal migration and for proper development in areas under the TTADC. MLAs of Tipra Motha are likely to meet Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi soon to press for a Bihar-like exercise in Tripura.</p>
