Fire tenders at Maha Kumbh to deliver Sangam water across all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh

CM Adityanath had earlier announced that those who could not visit the Maha Kumbh for a holy dip would receive Sangam water at their doorstep, the government said in a statement.

Lucknow: In a bid to enable those who could not visit the Maha Kumbh, which concluded on Wednesday after the last ‘Amrit Snan’ on Mahashivratri, to also earn ‘punya’ (virtue), the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to deliver the sacred ‘sangam’ (the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Sarswati rivers) water to their homes across the state.

According to the sources, the fire tenders, which were brought to Maha Kumbh from different parts of the state, will be carrying the ‘sangam’ water along with them when they return to their respective districts.

Reports said that dozens of fire tenders set off for their respective districts with the water from Sangam on Saturday.

According to the reports more than five lakh litres of sangam water would be distributed among the people across the state in the next few days. ‘’The distribution of sangam water to the homes will be done through religious organisations and local administration,’’ said an official in Prayagraj.

‘’The sacred sangam water is not a symbol of faith and reverence only in Prayagraj but also for the Hindus across the state and in the country....so those who could not make it to the Maha Kumbh for some reason, can also fulfil their desire to be part of the event, albeit in a different way,’’ the official added.

Earlier the sangam water was also taken to the jails in the state to enable the prisoners to gain ‘punya’.

According to the official sources more than 66 crore devotees had taken the holy dip in the sangam during the 45-day long Maha Kumbh.
