<p>Lucknow: Over 3.5 crore devotees, including seers and saints from different Akharas, took the holy dip at the Sangam -- the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati rivers -- in Prayagraj on the occasion of 'Makar Sankranti' on Tuesday.</p><p>It was the first of the three 'Amrit Snans' at the Mahakumbh.</p><p>Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that more than 3.5 crore devotees took the holy dip at Sangam on Makar Sankranti. </p><p>Uttar Pradesh police chief Prashant Kumar said that over 1.6 crore devotees had taken the holy dip at Sangam around noon. </p>.Foreign devotees add to the divine charm of Maha Kumbh.<p>The seers and saints, including the Naga Sadhus, from all the 13 Akharas also took bath in the Sangam waters on Tuesday. The bathing started around dawn and the Akharas took turns to take the holy dip in the near freezing waters.</p><p>Shree Panchayati Akhara Mahanirvani was the first to take the ‘Amrit Snan’ followed by the other Akharas.</p><p>Chanting ‘Har Har Mahadev’, the Naga sadhus and other saints rushed toward the Sangam waters as the bathing began. There was a huge crowd of devotees beyond the barricades to witness this mesmerising spectacle.</p><p>The seers from the various Akharas also displayed their weapons on this occasion. Choppers showered flower petals on the devotees at the Sangam.</p>.<p>UP principal secretary home Sanjay Prasad said that the first 'Amrit Snan' went off well and there was no report of any untoward incident from anywhere. He said that more than 60 thousand security personnel had been deployed and the entire area was being navigated through Google.</p><p>There was a massive crowd at the Prayagraj Junction railway station as thousands of devotees kept arriving from different parts of the state to take the holy dip at the Sangam. The officials had a tough time managing the surging masses at the station.</p>
