Nearly three months after the Kerala High Court annulled her marriage to Shafin Jahan, leaving her in custody of her parents, Hadiya (Akhila Ashokan before she converted to Islam) asks impassively – “Is this going to be my life?”

The life of 24-year-old Hadiya, a trained homoeopath, took another turn on August 16 after the Supreme Court directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to probe the possibilities of her conversion to Islam and marriage being part of “organised” efforts to radicalise Hindu women in Kerala.

The Supreme Court’s directive has triggered a look into her life now, in a video posted on social media by activist Rahul Easwar.
