Voting timing increased by one hour for upcoming assembly elections in 2021

Election Commission of India on Friday announced that the voting hours for the upcoming assembly elections in four states and a union territory will be increased by one hour.

The new guidelines are designed to deal with disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the EC chief said. The extra hour is expected to reduce crowding at the polling booths, EC added.

EC announced polling dates for assembly elections in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam, West Bengal and Puducherry on Friday.

The elections for the states will begin on March 27. The counting of all the Assembly elections will take place on May 2.

The Assembly election for Assam will start on March 27 and end on April 6 and will be held in three phases.

The Assembly elections for Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry will be held on April 6.

The Assembly election for West Bengal will start on March 27 and end on April 29 and will be held in eight phases.
