Who is Abhinav Chandrachud? Ex-CJI's son represents Ranveer Allahbadia in Supreme Court

YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia has approached the Supreme Court with a plea to club all FIRs against him filed after his obscene remarks on Samay Raina's India's Got Latent show.

Allahbadia is being represented in the apex court by none other than Abhinav Chandrachud, the son of former Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud.

Chandrachud wanted the case to be listed for an urgent hearing, but as per PTI, a bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar told Abhinav Chandrachud that it does not allow oral mentioning of cases for urgent listing.

“I have assigned the bench and it will come up (before a bench) in two-three days,” the CJI said when Chandrachud submitted that the Assam police had summoned Allahbadia for joining the probe during the day.

An Assam police team is in Pune to issue summons to Raina in connection with a case filed in the north-eastern state over his now-deleted YouTube show India's Got Latent. Raina has a house in Balewadi in Pune.

A case was registered on Monday in Guwahati by a resident there for alleged promotion of obscenity in a publicly accessible online show.

Besides Allahbadia and Raina, others named in the case in Assam are Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija.

Earlier, Allahabadia was asked to remain present at Mumbai's Khar police station by the Mumbai police.

The YouTuber is also facing a police complaint in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

The Maharashtra Cyber Department has also registered the case under relevant sections of the IT Act and sought the removal of all episodes -- a total 18 -- of the comedy show.

Who is Abhinav Chandrachud?

Abhinav Chandrachud is a lawyer who practices at the Bombay High Court. He received an LLB (Bachelor of Law) degree from the Government Law College, Mumbai in 2008, post which he moved to the United States where he completed his postgraduation (LLM) from the Harvard School of Law.

Chandrachud has another postgraduate degree from the Standford Law School, which he received in 2012.

He continued to pursue his research at Stanford, earning a doctorate in 2014.

While still studying, Chandrachud gathered experience by working as a paralegal with a US-based law firm and joined Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, another such firm, as an Associate Attorney in 2009. He has been practicing at the Bombay High Court since 2014.
