Officials of Khyber Agency's political administration said the incident occurred in the remote Tirah Valley. Six of the eight persons in the pick-up truck were killed instantly when the bomb went off.
Local residents took the injured to a nearby hospital. Among the dead were Hassan Khel, the leader of a pro-government peace committee in Kokkikhel area, and his wife and mother.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack. The Taliban have killed scores of pro-government tribal elders and leaders of private militias in Pakistan's volatile northwest in the past few years.
