Tulu film ‘My Name Is Annappa’, scheduled to be released on September 21 at Jyothi theatre in Mangaluru is mired in controversy even before its release, as the release date of another Tulu film ‘Yera Uller Ge’ is all set to hit the screens on the same date.

Producers of both the films have refused to postpone the dates of release.

Addressing reporters in Mangaluru on Wednesday, Tulu film producer and Lakumi Cine Creations proprietor Kishore D Shetty said that the film ‘My Name Is Annappa’ applied for censorship even before ‘Yera Uller Ge’, and the censorship certificate was awarded to ‘My Name Is Annappa’ team prior to that of ‘Yera Uller Ge’. Therefore, it is justifiable that the film ‘My Name Is Annappa’ be released first.

However, the ‘Yera Uller Ge’ team has been adamant on the release of their film on September 21, Shetty said and added that the film team has approached the screening committee of Tulu Film Producers’ Association.

‘My Name Is Annappa’ is directed by Mayur R Shetty and produced by Ravi Rai Kalasa and Rohan Shetty. Manju Y Mudoor and Shubha Shetty are in the lead roles. Rangayana Raghu, Aravind Bolar, Pradeep Alva and others are in the cast.

The male protagonist Manju had earlier worked in supporting roles and is now making his debut as the hero, through ‘My Name Is Annappa’.
