Metrolife: Big day for star couple

The moment that actors Meghana Raj and Chiranjeevi Sarja have been waiting for has finally arrived. The couple, who have been dating each other for the last decade, will be tying the knot at an elaborate ceremony on May 2 at Palace Grounds.

The wedding is the talk of the town because it is not just the union of two stars, but also the coming together of two prominent families in the South Indian film industry.

If the engagement was touted as a big affair, the wedding is said to be even bigger. The arrangements in both households are on in full steam. The couple will also be having a church wedding on April 29, followed by a grand Hindu wedding ceremony on May 2. The outfits for the church wedding have been perfectly coordinated. “I will be wearing a white gown with rich crystal work on it. It has been designed by Tiya Maria from Cochin. Chiranjeevi will slip into an Indigo midnight blue suit designed by Paresh Lamba. I have matched my jewellery to the gown for the church wedding. I will be wearing a diamond necklace and my wedding ring is a diamond-studded one which has been designed to resemble the shape of the alphabet C (read Chiranjeevi). And Chiranjeevi will be wearing a plain gold band to go with his engagement ring,” says Meghana.

The mehndi ceremony will be held in Meghana’s house. Meghana will wear a multi-coloured ethic lehenga and the theme for the evening will be Rajasthani folk. The party at Chiranjeevi’s home has also begun with friends and relatives pouring in from different parts of the country.

The wedding trousseau for both Meghana and Chiranjeevi for May 2 is already set. Chiranjeevi says “The outfits for the muhurtham and for the reception will also be coordinated. I have picked up a unique Indian outfit for the reception. It is a rare piece that has been made just for the occasion.” Meghana will wear a cream coloured Kanjeevaram sari with sea green border for the muhurtham. She will later wear Kanjeevaram sari made in pure silver and gold for the reception at Palace Grounds. “The design on the blouse will resemble a bride being carried in a palanquin. The blouse has been designed by Rajendra. The designs have a story to tell,” says Meghana.

MEGHANA says “My parents and I have been like a tripod stand. After Chiranjeevi came into my life, it’s like a complete table- firm and strong. I don’t know what I would have done without him because he is the only one apart from my parents, who can handle me, love me unconditionally and tolerate me.”

Chiranjeevi says, “I met Salman and Sohail Khan during the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) three years ago and we hit it off really well. I have invited them both and they have promised to come.”

SUNDER RAJ says “Kamal and I have known each other for over 46 years. The Hasaan family is more like family to me than friends. When I went to invite them they were excited and have promised to be there at the wedding.”
