The weekend gone by was certainly special for the well-known orthopaedic surgeon Dr Thomas Chandy: his daughter Anisha Keri Chandy married Jonathan Franz Vincent at St
Patrick’s Church. The wedding was followed by a grand reception for family and friends at the Prince of Wales Lawns at Taj West End. And in attendance were about 1,300 guests.

The wedding outfits for the bride and groom were simple yet elegant. While Jonathan wore a black suit with a purple tie, Anisha was draped in a beautifully embroidered white gown. For the reception, she had got a lehenga made from her mother’s wedding sari.

Anisha says that she couldn’t have been happier. “I have found the perfect partner in Jonathan. He is the most supportive person I’ve come across. He is willing to go to any length to make me happy,” says Anisha. The couple share an interest in books, music and online gaming.

Jonathan’s father Dr James Eckardt and mother Susan Eckardt live in Huntsville in Alabama. Anisha completed her schooling from Sophia High school and the Canadian School in Bengaluru. She completed her graduation from Christ College and went on to do an MBA in marketing there. She later went to the US for higher studies.

“I completed a dual masters in health administration and health education from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. Jonathan is currently doing a degree in hospital administration,” she told Metrolife.

Dr Thomas Chandy owns and runs the Hosmat Hospital. Born in Bengaluru, he went to the US after completing his MBBS, and Orthopaedics, from St John’s Medical College. “I wanted to give back to the city where I belong, so I opened Hosmat in 1993. I moved back to India in 1992, after 17 years in the US My late wife Joy and I always wanted to return to India,” he says.

He did a super specialisation at the University of Oklahoma, in joint replacement, and arthroscopy and sports medicine. He was appointed as the Chief of Orthopaedics at Claremore Regional Hospital, Oklahoma for 10 years. It was during this time, that he and his late wife Joy, decided to open a hospital in India. “Bengaluru had no specialised comprehensive hospital for accident trauma, or for Orthopaedics We were the first private speciality hospital,” says Dr Thomas Chandy. Hosmat is one of the largest Ortho, Accidents, and Neuro Hospitals in India.

His children Anisha and Armand have specialised in hospital administration and will eventually take over the reins of Hosmat in future. “They didn’t want to do medicine, so they branched into administration. Armand is now completing a degree in hospital administration,” he says. With Anisha’s initiative, and seeing that over 20 percent of young girls in the US suffer from eating disorders, like anorexia and bulimia, Hosmat has started one of the first eating disorders centers in India.

Dr Thomas Chandy has a jazz and rock revival band, called the ‘Jazz n Rock Revival’, performing for 18 years and is still going strong. He is also a collector of musical instruments and currently is the proud owner of about 275 instruments from across the world.
