KGF crosses 25 days, going steady

Last Updated 17 January 2019, 12:43 IST

KGF, the Kannada film dubbed into five languages and released across India, is continuing its spectacular run. Its cast and crew celebrated its 25th day on Wednesday with an event at Bengaluru.

Anant Nag, who plays a journalist, described KGF as a monster hit, giving credit to producer Anand Kiragandur, director Prashant Neel, cinematographer Bhuvan Gowda and hero Yash. Anant disclosed how, when he had to dub his portions in Hindi, he took the help of his wife Gayatri, a Punjabi who speaks Hindi well. “I was afraid my Kannada or Konkani accent would sneak in,” he said. In earlier years, Anant acted in several Hindi films, including those directed by M S Sathyu and Shyam Benegal. Yash went back 10 years to the time he was featured in a serial with Anant Nag, and recalled how he would shower him with questions about the film industry.

Trade analysts say the film is continuing to hold its ground against more recent releases featuring big Bollywood stars. In Karnataka, KGF is all set to beat the collection records of Bahubali 2. It has grossed Rs 200 crore nationally and is said to be the firth south Indian film to do so. In its Hindi avatar, it has collected Rs 50 crore, reports say.

Anant also spoke about allowing dubbing in Kannada, underlining how the success of KGF had opened new horizons for the Kannada industry. Many opposed to dubbing into Kannada are now opening up to the idea, he said.

Sudeep’s ‘Pailwaan’ promotions

Sudeep has just put out a poster for his forthcoming film Pailwaan, and released its trailer. Among those patting his back on Twitter was Salman Khan: @KicchaSudeep, you have taken what we started to another level, all the best and congrats to the man, to the Pailwaan.’ You may remember Salman featured in the wrestling film Sultan, and is referring to the thematic similarity of Pailwaan with that film. Bollywood actor Suneil Shetty is making his debut in Kannada cinema with Pailwaan. The film is due for release this summer, and is likely to be dubbed into seven languages.
