Paw-dorable Pixie

Dogs do speak but only to those who know how to listen. Being a pet parent is one of the best things that can happen to anyone. It changes one for good. These furry friends influence people around with values of patience, tolerance, love and respect.

I’ve always been surrounded by dogs as I have a pet-loving family. Pixie was the first dog I took care of. Her name is another word for fairy. I got her on November 29, 2015 and since then, all my clothes have dog hair on them or as I like to call it, canine confetti.

Her breed, Pekingese, used to be the royal dogs of China that guarded the palaces and they used to be carried around in the robes of the Chinese emperors.

Pixie is a lovely dog but she can be naughty at times with her shrill bark. She will turn three on September 8 and she’s already stolen my heart. She wakes me up with her morning squeals when beside my bed as she wants someone to play with.

Like any other dog, she doesn’t like it when I go out. When I am back home, she jumps and clings on to my leg or bites on to one end of my trousers until I change into my home clothes. This is to ensure that I will not go out immediately again.

After she gets her weekly bath, her fur often reminds me of a lion’s mane. She is a fussy eater but gobbles up her treats in no time. Pixie gets very excited when anyone lifts her leash or says ‘walkie walkie’.

She loves to chase away the cats that jump into our compound at times.

She is the centre of attraction when I take her to school or to dog shows and her extra long tongue and tail surprise everyone. She enjoys going on drives and swimming.

Owing to her tiny size, kids and adults want to carry her and pet her but Pixie doesn’t like too much of caressing. This comes with her breed. All the dogs in our family are considered part of the family and are loved by everyone.

Owning a dog has made things perfect. Dogs are very understanding and you will always have a wagging tail to welcome you back home. They will love you no matter what.
Whoever said that diamonds are a girl’s best friend, never owned a dog for sure!
