Deciding what to wear for a night out can be just as puzzling as figuring out where to go. Following the mountain of clothes that ensue on the bedroom floor, we’re all guilty of resorting to the oh-so-familiar little black dress (LBD). Its chic-factor for dinner, drinks and dancing is undeniable, but let’s face it: no one wants to look like every other girl at the party. Enter eight unexpected hero pieces that’ll up your evening outfit game for spring, transforming an easily cliche look into something more elevated, chic and alluring.

The sexy jumpsuit

If you can’t seem to part with an all-black look, ditch your usual LBD and tights combo for a classic jumpsuit with a sexy neckline. Finish the look with some smudged eyeliner, pointy pumps and gold accessories.

The bright maxi skirt

A long skirt for a night out? We are all about it. Pair the new night time staple with an off-the-shoulder top to show a little skin then add glamour with an edgy clutch, drop earrings and strappy sandals.

The Culotte suit

Defy the norm and stand out in the sea of mini skirts and frocks with chic culottes and a matching blazer. Add metallic pumps and a cheeky clutch for a fabulous finish.

Pop coloured tights

Not into spending a ton on a new dress? Jazz up your basic black, white, tan or beige version with a pair of get-noticed tights. We love red, green and fuchsia for this.

Pretty pale dress

“Black tie” doesn’t always mean black dress. If you’ve got a fancy fete on your agenda, take a tip and opt for a pretty pale dress. It’ll set you apart from the sea of black dresses, getting you noticed in a good way.

Statement outfit

Remember that jumpsuit you bought on major sale but haven’t worn yet? Tonight’s the night! We love a head-to-toe red jumpsuit for example, and if you’re going for something similar, don’t forget to cinch your waist! It’ll break up the look and flatter your shape.

Jewel tone blazer

Instantly transform your basic tee and miniskirt into a party-ready look with a festive jewel-tone blazer. Showing some leg and adding major heels doesn’t hurt either.

Citrus hues

That bright mini-dress you lived in all summer isn’t only for warm-weather months! Make it winter-appropriate by adding black accessories. If you are cold, try black tights with a fitted black turtleneck underneath to amp up the chic (and heat) factor.
