Christmas delight

Deccan Herald and Prajavani are presenting ‘Christmas Music Festival’ in the City from December 15 to 18. On December 15, 6.30 pm ‘Stuti Choir Group’ from Goa will perform at St Mark’s Cathedral, St Mark’s Road. The ‘Bangalore School of Music Choir Group’ will perform at Ascension Church, D’Costa Layout on December 16, 6.30 pm. On December 17, 6.30 pm, ‘Paranjoti Choir Group’, Mumbai, will perform at Bethel AG Church, Hebbal and on December 18, 6.30 pm ‘Paranjoti Choir Group’, Mumbai, will perform at Paul Thangaiah’s FGAG Church,
Indiranagar.   

‘Fusion dreams’

Sparsh Foundation is organising a musical programme, ‘Fusion Dreams — a Carnatic Jazz and World Fusion Concert’ on January 7, 6.30 pm at Ravindra Kalakshetra, J C Road. The concert will feature M Balamuralikrishna and violinist Jyotsana Srikanth. They will be accompanied by Shadrach Solomon on the keyboards, Alwyn Fernandes on the lead guitar, Karthik Mani on special percussion, A Amruth on Indian percussion, Keith Peters on bass guitar and Bernhard Schimpelsberger on the drums. ‘Shyam Rang’

Bangalore International Centre will be organising a thematic Hindustani vocal concert by Nagabhushan Hegde,  titled Shyam Rang, on December 2, 6.30 pm at the Centre, Teri Complex, 4th Main, 2nd Cross, Domlur II Stage. For details, call 25359680.

Raga and rhythm

MES Kalavedi is organising a lecture demonstration and concert on ‘raga and rhythm ensemble’ at Vidy­asa­gara Prof M P L Sastry Sabha­ngana, MES College, Vidy­as­agara Prof M P L Sastry Road, 15th Cross, Malles­waram on De­cember 3, 6.30 pm. There will be performances by Krishna Raghavendra on the deta­c­h­able veena, Anoor Anantha­krishna Sharma on the mrid­a­ngam, Charulatha Ra­m­anu--jam on violin, Annada Prasanna Pattanaik on bansuri and Arun Kumar on rhythm pads.

‘Cadence’

‘Cadence 2011’, an evening of timeless Christmas music with ‘Harmony Kids’ Choir’, conducted by Sandra Oberoi, will be held at Jyoti Nivas College on December 11, 5.30 pm.

‘Yuvotsava’

Nadajyothi Sri Thyagaraja Swamy Bhajana Sabha and Ananya are presenting ‘Sangeetha Vidwan Mageri N Ramachandra Memorial Yuvotsava 2011’ on December 3, 7 pm and on December 4, 5 pm. On December 3, Ranjani Nagaraj will present a vocal recital. Venkatesh Joishier will be on violin and Prasanth will be on mridangam. On December 4, Shubha Santhosh will present a veena recital. Ranjanu Siddhanthi Venkatesh will be on mridangam and Karthik Mani on ghatam.

In concert

Koch Shankar and Adil and Vasundhara will present a concert at CounterCulture on December 3, 8.30 pm. Koch Shankar is a roots blues musician from Luton, UK. His simple acoustic style takes one straight back to the delta era. Vasundhara Vidalur and Adil Manuel spearhead a collaborative outfit based out of New Delhi. Their musical spectrum spans jazz fusion, funk, R&B, blues and gospel.

‘Slow Joe...’

Alliance Francaise is presenting a concert ‘Slow Joe and The Ginger Accident’, where a Goan will meet a few French musicians. This will be held on December 9, 8 pm at Opus.

In sync

A music concert by Toumani Diabate and Vishwamohan Bhatt will be held on December 4, 7.30 pm at Mount Ca­mel College Auditorium, 58, Palace Road, Vasanth Nagar. Entry is by invitation. Classical carnival

Ponnaiah Lalithakala Academy is presenting ‘A Carnival of Classical Choroegraphy’ from December 1 to 4 at 6.30 pm. The venue is Padmini Rao Paramparaa Art and Culture Resource Development Centre Auditorium.  

Piano recital

International Music and Arts Society is presenting a piano concert by Karl Lutchmayer on December 7, 7.15 pm at Alliance Francaise. The concert is to celebrate the bicentenary of Hungarian composer Franz Liszt. Karl will perform an interesting selection of Liszt and pieces of other composers such Bach, Beethoven and Chopin. ‘Vistas’

Vistas, a musical treat of pop rock electronica, blues and jazz, will be presented by Arati Rao’s band Kaya on December 2, 8.30 pm at Bflat, Indiranagar. The band comprises musician Adrian D’Souza (drums), accompanied by Aman Mahajan (keyboard) and Arjun Chandran (guitar) with Arati Rao on vocals. Arati is known to spontaneously invite talented musicians to perform with her. This time, she will feature guests Imraan Jamal on percussion and Prashanth Pallemonie on turn tables.
