Every musical note (swara) or set of notes is believed to have an effect on people when used during a particular time of the day.

Keeping this fact in mind, the 24 hours are divided into 12 different  timezones (prahars) and there are ragas and compositions based on these time zones. Bhairav, Jogiya are ragas sung early in the morning, Saarang in the afternoon, Yaman, Hameer in the evening, Bihag and Bageshri at night.

Apart from the time zones, Indian music is also based on different seasons and moods.

Banyan Tree’s Teen Prahar strives to highlight this distinguishing factor of Indian music and also to give a platform to upcoming maestros among other big names. This festival is sure to not just enthrall the music lovers of Bangalore but also create an awareness among the new generation.

The third consecutive edition of Teen Prahar will be held on February 19, 5 pm at Chowdiah Memorial Hall.

It will feature Devaki Pandit (Hindustani vocal), T M Krishna (Carnatic vocal), Purbayan Chatterjee (sitar), Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia with students (flute).
