Two activists of the DYFI, the youth wing of the ruling CPI(M) in Kerala, were injured in an attack on them allegedly by BJP activists at Elappulli in the district. Police said six persons, who came on motorcycles, allegedly entered the houses of the victims last night and attacked them.

Rathish (30), a Democratic Youth Front of India activist, received injuries caused by sharp weapons, while another DYFI activist, Yousuf (31), suffered an injury in stone-pelting, police said.

The attackers fled soon after the incident and a hunt was on to nab them, police said, adding that the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital and their condition was stated to be stable.

Yesterday, four RSS workers were injured, two of them seriously, after unidentified miscreants hurled a crude bomb at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh office near Nadapuram in the district.

Kerala has been witnessing clashes between the cadres of the BJP-RSS and the ruling CPI(M), especially in the northern district of Kannur, for a long time. Both the sides have blamed each other for the cycle of violence which has claimed several lives.
