Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders are trying to mollify former member Madhu Bhaduri, who has quit the party over its stand on Law Minister Somnath Bharti’s raid on African women.

“We will bring back her. She is a senior person and all of us respect her,” said a senior AAP leader. “We are in touch.”

Bhaduri was opposed to Bharti's actions and wanted a public apology from the party on the issue. Her attempt to raise the issue during the national council held last week failed.

Party spokesperson Yogendra Yadav had tried to downplay the issue during his conference at the conclusion of the meeting. He had clarified that the issue was not on the agenda for the session, and hence could not be taken up when Bhaduri wanted.

The angry senior leader reacted sharply and alleged that the party was behaving like a khap panchayat.

Since her quitting the party, AAP leaders are apologetic and have expressed regret over the turn of events. Some are also expressing disagreement over the party’s stand on the Bharti episode.

According to sources, the issue was also discussed in the Political Affairs Committee of the party, whose meeting was held on Sunday night.
