The ABVP on Saturday won the student’s union elections at the University of Hyderabad by defeating SFI led panel.

This is the third election after the suicide of research scholar Rohith Vemula. An alliance led by SFI had won 2016 polls, followed by victory of Alliance for Social Justice (ASJ), a coalition of several student organisations in 2017.

However, the ABVP which was blamed for the suicide of Rohith Vemula, bounced back by winning all the six positions in the union.
An ABVP press release said, Aarti Nagpal (1663) defeated Erram Naveen of the coalition to become president, Amit Kumar (1505) defeated Paritosh in the race for vice president, Dheeraj defeated Abhishek Kumar to become General Secretary. Praveen Kumar (joint secretary) Aravind (cultural secretary) and Nikhil (sports secretary) were the other ABVP winners.
“The victory is a slap on the face of those forces that are trying to divide students in the name of caste,” said Gunta Laxman, ABVP organisational secretary, Telangana in a release. ABVP also organised a victory parade.
