“Jaitley had submitted his resignation to party president Rajnath Singh on June 5th”, a senior BJP leader told Deccan Herald. The resignation was accepted by Singh on Tuesday.

In his letter of resignation, Jaitley has sworn by ‘one-man, one-post’ principle saying he was already appointed the leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.  Jaitley is currently in London.  Asked whether the resignation was linked to the spate of demand for fixing accountability for the poll debacle, the BJP president said it had nothing to do with it.
Meanwhile, former party president Murli Manohar Joshi has taken up the alleged “leak” of senior party leader Yashwant Sinha’s resignation letter to the party president.  The BJP veteran said that he would raise the issue during Party’s National Executive Meeting on June 20 and June 21.

Jaitley had last week visited Bangalore to quell the rebellion that seemed to be raising its head in the State BJP. This followed the show of dissidence of ministers K S Eshwarappa on the one hand and the Reddy brothers on the other. The three-day visit of Jaitley, who was asked to look into the Karnataka problem, seemed to have bore fruit as the warring ministers agreed to bury the hatchet, at least for now.
