A physically challenged woman was raped by an auto driver with the help of two of his accomplices, in Vizianagaram town of Andhra Pradesh late Sunday night.

The 21-year-old Dalit woman was taken to a secluded place and raped by the driver. A biker heard the victim's cries for help and responded, forcing the accused to flee leaving her behind. The woman reached her relatives’ home with the help of the biker.

According to Vizianagaram deputy superintendent of police A V Ramana, the victim, who was on her way to her sister’s place, was waiting for her relatives to pick her up. As they did not turn up for over an hour, she boarded an auto. There were two other men apart from the driver in the auto. Assuming it was a share-auto, she got into it.

However, when the auto driver did not stop at Phool Bagh area as directed by her, she raised an alarm. The two men shut her mouth and overpowered her. They took her to an isolated place and the driver raped her. Before the other two could assault her, the biker arrived and the criminals fled.

The police arrested the trio and registered a case of rape, besides invoking provisions of the SC, ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
