The Budget Session of Parliament will begin on January 31 with the address of President Ram Nath Kovind to both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha and continue till February 13.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is scheduled to present the interim Budget on February 1.

Jaitley is in the US on a personal visit ostensibly to seek medical advice on his health condition.

The government has not handed over the finance portfolio to any other minister, an indication that Jaitley will present the Budget on February 1.

President Kovind is expected to outline the achievements of the NDA government and set out a roadmap for the future.

After the meeting of the Union Cabinet on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an informal discussion with his ministerial colleagues on the upcoming Budget Session and the broad contours of the President's address.

Modi also sought inputs from the various ministries on the achievements that could be included in the President's address.

The Houses will take up the motion of thanks to the President for his address to the joint sitting.
