A letter by the Registrar General-in-charge of High Court to the Secretary of the Judicial Department of West Bengal government has revealed that the Acting Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court will reinaugurate its Circuit Bench in Jalpaiguri district on March 9.

The development assumes significance as the Circuit Bench was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi only on Friday.

“I am to inform you that the Hon’ble Acting Chief Justice, has been pleased to express his Lordship’s desire for operationalisation of the Circuit Bench at Jalpaiguri, on and from Monday, 11th of March, 2019. His Lordship has further been pleased to fix the date for formal inauguration within the premises of the seat of the Circuit Bench on Saturday 9th March, 2019,” stated the letter by the Registrar General-in-charge of the Calcutta High Court. The letter dated February 8, 2019 came to light on Saturday.
Earlier, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged that the Prime Minister did not bother to inform any Calcutta High Court judge or the state government but only sent a “minute-by-minute” programme that he will inaugurate the Circuit Bench.
