Chandy bats for Sabarimala's national pilgrimage tag

Kerala on Thursday asked other southern states to support its bid to gain national pilgrimage centre for the Lord Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala.

Speaking at a review meeting attended by ministers and officials of all the southern states ahead of the Mandalam season at Sabarimala, Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said his government has moved a request to the Centre to grant national pilgrimage centre status to the shrine. He appealed to all the southern states to join Kerala in the effort.

The government has spent Rs 65.32 crore on projects envisioned under the Sabarimala Master Plan and is set to commission an Rs 25-crore sewage system at Sabarimala on November 10, the Chief Minister said.

Popular playback singer SP Balasubramaniam has agreed to work with the state to create a promo video.
