PDP patron Mufti Mohmmad Sayeed today said the Congress-NC alliance government's decision to approve a package for the refugees just ahead of the assembly polls was "ridiculous", alleging that the parties did nothing for them in the past 10 years.

Addressing a rally in support of party candidate from R S Pura seat Bhushan Dogra at Miran Sahib of the district, Mufti alleged that the Congress, during its 10-year rule at the Centre, had done nothing for the refugees, but just ahead of the elections it has approved a package for the refugees.

"The decision is ridiculous," he said.

The Congress-NC government had on October 16 approved a Rs 9,000-crore financial package to be submitted to the Centre for the settlement of refugees from Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Chhamb.

The proposal includes providing funds to the tune of Rs 9,096 crore for payment of compensation as one-time settlement in favour of 36,384 families who were displaced from PoK and Chhamb areas.

Taking a dig at Congress, he said "new administrative units were created at the fag end of the present regime just to hoodwink the innocent people".

Urging people of R S Pura to lead the ongoing movement for change in Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti said it was his desire to establish a system where every section of the society would get justice and equal opportunities for development and socio-economic growth.

Asking the people to compare the three-year tenure of PDP with the six-year NC-Congress rule, Mufti said during the last six years system of governance has been totally collapsed due to misdeeds of those who are at the helm of the affairs.

Mufti reminded that during its tenure the PDP-led regime had proved its capability of changing life of the common masses by treating all individual equally and providing equal opportunities to all sections of the society.

"Although we had just 16 members in the Assembly, we had provided good governance to the people by streamlining functioning of all the wings of the government," he said.
"It was only during the PDP-led regime that governance consciousness was generated in the people of the state and the common masses had a taste of good governance," he said.

He said the PDP-led regime had brought transparency and accountability in the governance by strengthening democratic institutions in the state.

He mentioned that during the PDP-led regime more than 80,000 youths were appointed as teachers under Rebar-e-Talim (ReT) scheme and more than 30,000 Anganwari workers were also appointed.

"Not a single case of favouritism or nepotism was reported during our tenure because appointments were made with complete transparency and accountability to ensure that only deserving people would get jobs," he said.

He, however, regretted that the present regime has been brazenly indulged into backdoor appointments in government jobs. "The present regime has miserable failed to do justice with the people as it has not fulfil any of the promises made to the people during 2008 elections," he said.

"Corruption has crossed all limits during the last six years because there is no transparency and accountability in the governance," he said, urging people to vote for his party in the upcoming assembly elections.
