After deciding to carve out Telangana, the Congress on Tuesday reminded Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) of its promise to merge the party with it if their demand for a separate state was granted.

“TRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao had earlier said that if Telangana is given, he will merge his party with the Congress. We will wait for his decision. We are favourably inclined to discuss the issue (merger) with him,” said Digvijaya Singh, who is the party in-charge for Andhra Pradesh.

TRS has spearheaded the agitation to form a the separate state of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh for the past several years.

To a volley of questions on whether the Congress was trying to cut its political losses in Andhra Pradesh, Singh responded saying, “The decision has not been taken for any political expediency.”
