CPI declines to join Ramdev's movement

Last Updated 15 June 2012, 18:39 IST

Communist Party of India (CPI) politely declined Yoga Guru Ramdev’s appeal to join his anti-black money movement.

The Guru walked into CPI headquarters on Friday to ask CPI leaders to come with him which they refused and told him to go ahead on his agenda.

The meeting was attended by senior leader AB Bardhan and General Secretary Sudhakar Raddy.
"Ramdev will fight on his own. He is organising his agitation. We will organise ours," Bardhan told reporters after the meeting.

However, he added that his party was in agreement with the most of the issues Ramdev is raising.
In his bid to seek support of political parties on the issue of black money, the Yoga Guru has already met Nitin Gadkari (BJP), Mulayam Singh Yadav (SP), Sharad Pawar (NCP),  Ajit Singh (RLD), Parkash Singh Badal (SAD), Naveen Patnaik (BJD) and Chandrababu Naidu (TDP). However, Ramdev’s meeting with CPM leaders is yet to take place. The party is apparently not showing any interest in such meeting.

We discussed the issue of blackmoney as well as the use of tainted money within the country, Ramdev told reporters after the meeting.
