JOIN USOn a chilly Monday, the national capital recorded the lowest minimum temperature in a decade for the month of December. The mercury dipped to 2.4 degrees Celsius and cold winds swept through city streets, with isolated rainfall in some areas.
“The lowest minimum temperature was recorded at 8:30 am. It was 5 degrees below normal,” said an official at the India Meteorological Department.
The maximum temperature was 19.7 degrees Celsius.
On Tuesday, the maximum temperature would be 19 degrees Celsius and the minimum is set to hit 7 degrees, making it slightly warmer than Monday.
The maximum humidity on Monday was 100 per cent at 8:30 am; the minimum was 54 per cent.
Due to foggy conditions in the northern region, at least 13 incoming trains were reported running late, and some had been rescheduled. Two trains from Delhi were rescheduled and four got cancelled. The passenger trains will remain cancelled till January 15.
“The position will be reviewed based on local weather conditions,” said a Northern Railway spokesperson. “In case there is no fog, trains that have been cancelled or partially cancelled will be restored with a three-day notice subject to a message that the trains may be cancelled again in case of fog.”
Delhi was foggy on Monday morning, but visibility improved as the day progressed. Visibility didn’t reach the level at which it would disrupt flights, and operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport were not affected. The procedure to handle low visibility was not started by airport authorities.
Tuesday morning is expected to remain foggy as well.
