At a time when the BJP is claiming that it will come to power in West Bengal by winning more than 200 seats, party sources reveal that it barely has any organisation in about 20% of the booths in the state. They also said that in a bid to resolve the issue, the state BJP leadership issued a 25 point instruction to party workers to strengthen its booth level organisation.

BJP insiders said that with the Assembly elections round the corner, it will be a challenging task for the party to strengthen its organisation in such a large number of booths.

“It will be a challenging task. But the state leadership has swung into action and we are confident of resolving the issue,” said a senior state BJP leader.

However, he argued that it would be wrong to assume that BJP’s organisational condition in Bengal is alarming as the party won 18 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

“So one should not assume that our booth level organisation is not up to the mar across the state,” the BJP leader said.

He also said that as per the instruction issued by the state leadership, three workers in each booth would be tasked with boosting the organisation and keeping it “active” in the booth.

As per the instruction, the booths will be divided into four categories depending on the number of party workers. The booths which have more than 20 members will be classified as ‘A category’ booths, those with more than 10 members will be considered as ‘B category’ booths, those with five members will be put under the ‘C category’ and those with only one member will be put under the ‘D category’.

The state BJP leadership also instructed the booth level workers to induct at least 20 new members each. There should also be people from the SC, ST and OBC communities among those who are inducted. A special emphasis is being given on inducting more woman into the party at the booth level.
