Raising the pitch over the “insider-outsider” debate, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Saturday released its slogan for the upcoming Assembly elections. The slogan ‘Bangla nijer meyekei chai’ (Bengal wants her own daughter) portrayed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as the daughter of Bengal.

TMC secretary-general and Education Minister Partha Chatterjee told the journalists at the event that the people of Bengal want their own daughter who had been by their side for decades.

The slogan with Banerjee's photo was put up on hoardings across Kolkata as the state's ruling party officially launched it from its headquarters off EM Bypass.

"They don’t want some outsiders to take over the reins of Bengal,” said Chatterjee.

The TMC leadership took potshots at the BJP for not being able to find a chief ministerial candidate so far while the Assembly elections were round the corner.

"Trinamool has Mamata Banerjee who is a mass leader and knows the mood of the people," said Rural Development Minister Subrata Mukherjee.

TMC general secretary Subrata Bakshi said that no other state government had done so much for the people. He added that the Assembly polls were not a “major factor” for the TMC.

“People across the country are watching how constitutional ethos are being protected and the results of the Assembly polls will prove it,” he said.

The Trinamool Congress is engaged in a bitter political fight with the BJP, pitching the opposition party's leaders as outsiders who are on "election tourism" to the state.
