A team of CBI officials questioned Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee’s wife Rujira in relation to a coal pilferage case on Tuesday. The CBI officials examined her at Abhishek’s residence in South Kolkata for nearly an hour. Abhishek is the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
According to CBI sources, the investigators questioned Rujira about details of the transactions in her bank accounts. The Central agency on November 28 conducted large scale search operations at several locations in West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh after filing a case against one Anup Majhi.

Earlier in the day minutes before the CBI team’s arrival at her nephew’s residence, the Chief Minister made a sudden visit. She stayed there for about eight minutes and left before the investigators arrived. However, the Chief Minister did not speak to the media persons at the spot.
Sources in the Trinamool Congress (TMC) said that Mamata went there neither in her capacity as the Chief Minister nor as the TMC supremo.
“She went there as the guardian of the family,” a senior TMC leader said.
The CBI on Monday examined Abhishek’s sister-in-law Menaka Gambhir in relation to the coal pilferage case.
