Former IAS officer Serjius Minj joins Congress

It seems like the flood gates of former bureaucrats joining politics has opened in Chhattisgarh.

Now, Serjius Minj, a 1978 batch IAS officer and a retired chief information commissioner, joined the Congress on Sunday.

Recently, another IAS officer O P Choudhary had resigned as Raipur collector and joined the BJP in presence of party national president Amit Shah and Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh.

On Saturday, retired IAS officer R P S Tyagi had joined the Congress.

Minj joined the Congress in presence of Chhattisgarh Incharge of Congress P L Punia and Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Bhupesh Baghel.

In a brief speech, Minj said that he had joined politics to serve the people.

Minj hails from the tribal dominated Jashpur region and comes from a family of farmers.

He is likely to be fielded from the Kunkuri Assembly constituency, party sources revealed.

Minj had served as the chief information commissioner of the state till his retirement in March 2016.

He was the first divisional commissioner of Raipur after the state of Chhattisgarh came into being.

He has worked previously in various capacities including as Rajnandgaon collector and Gwalior commissioner.

Minj was aslo the additional chief secretary of Chhattisgarh.
