The government will give all necessary regulatory clearances at one go to investors ready to run public transport buses on electricity or alternative fuel, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Friday.
Major automobile manufacturers like Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland could also form an operator company on the pattern of London Transport, the minister said while addressing Mobility Summit here.
He also promised to remove regulatory hurdles to give a push to e-vehicles in India.
Electric highway
Gadkari said that he was keen to promote electric highways in India which will not only make transportation cheaper but divert cargo from rails.
Sweden has developed a new electric highway technology, a result of several years of cooperation between the Swedish government and the private sector, which permits trucks to operate as electric vehicles when on the electrified road and as regular hybrid vehicles at other times.
