Last Updated 25 July 2019, 10:55 IST

President Ramnath Kovind, addressing the seventh convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad situated at Kandi here on Sunday, called for greater sharing of knowledge between institutions located in the vicinity.

In all, 560 students of different engineering streams graduated from the campus which has completed 10 years of its existence.
“IIT Hyderabad is not envisaged as just an add-on to this ecosystem. Rather, it needs to be the hub of this ecosystem. It must be the connecting tissue and the catalyst for a greater synergy. This is IIT Hyderabad’s mandate. I would go to the extent of urging greater engagement with schools like the Indian School of Business and the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research,” the President said.
He wanted IIT Hyderabad to remain relevant to the fourth industrial revolution that will write the script of the 21st century. He said that he is happy to note that the campus has a network of centres for research and promotion of entrepreneurship such as the Centre for Healthcare Entrepreneurship; the Centre for Cyber-Physical Systems and Internet of Things; and the Fabless Chip Design Incubator and other initiatives that fall under the umbrella of thei-TIC Foundation.
Lauding the excellent research opportunities, the President said that Hyderabad-based companies are engaged in cutting-edge research and manufacture of biopharmaceuticals and vaccines and, separately, in the field of Information Technology. “Individually, many of these entities are doing excellent work. The point is: are they pulling their collective weight? Is there adequate cross-pollination?” the president asked. IIT Hyderabad is not envisaged as just an add-on to this ecosystem. Rather, it needs to be the hub of this ecosystem, he said.
