'Kaala' not made for Rajini's entry into politics: Ranjith

Last Updated 13 October 2018, 09:57 IST

'Kaala' is deeply political as the movie talks about land rights of the people, but it was not made keeping in mind Rajinikanth's political plunge, director Pa Ranjith said on Thursday.

As the movie was well received by fans and people who watched the show, a visibly elated Ranjith said he was very happy that Rajiniism has worked very well in 'Kaala'.

“I am very happy. I have received good feedback about the movie from many people who watched it in countries like Dubai, Malaysia, Singapore and the US – where it opened last night. I thank Rajinikanth and producer Dhanush,” Ranjith, who also directed Rajini's last movie 'Kabali', told reporters.

Before watching the movie at Sathyam Cinemas in Chennai along with his family, Ranjith said the movie has many sub-texts in it and he has received positive feedback on the issue on which the film is based.

“It is a political movie. But the movie was not made keeping in mind Rajinikanth's political entry. The movie talks about a deeply political issue – land rights of the common man. The motive was to talk about people's issue and how they fight for it,” Ranjith said.

Ranjith, know for his deep political sense, said he would rather call himself a politician than a filmmaker. 'Kaala' is the first movie to be released after Rajinikanth announced last year that he would enter politics.
